St. Philip is also known for his role in the early spread of Christianity. According to tradition, he was martyred in the city of Hierapolis in modern-day Turkey, where he was preaching the gospel. He was reportedly crucified upside down, and his body was later buried in the city’s cathedral. St. Philip’s tomb became a popular destination for Christian pilgrims, and his feast day is celebrated on May 3rd in the Western Christian tradition.
